Rowan Jones – Chief Executive Officer
Rowan not only knows insurance – he lives it! His passion for putting his clients first has seen Compendium grow into one of the largest independent brokerages in the country. His vision, entrepreneurial drive, knack for strategic partnerships, and inspirational leadership, ensure that Compendium continues to thrive in an increasingly competitive environment. Despite enormous structural and regulatory changes in the insurance industry, and increasing economic pressures, clients continue to be attracted to Rowan’s style of doing business. In many ways the Compendium brand is a reflection of Rowan’s character: straight-forward, honest, committed, competitive and caring. “Technologies may change and products evolve”, says Rowan, “but insurance will always be about people and their need for security in an uncertain world. If you don’t care about that, then you’re in the wrong business”.
Chantelle Jones – Chief Operating Officer
Chantelle has an in-depth knowledge of all administrative and operational functions of Compendium, and ensures that the internal workings of Head Office and all Branch companies run smoothly. With 20 years’ experience, she has helped grow Compendium’s national presence. Chantelle continues to drive customer satisfaction with a strong focus on operational strategy, execution excellence and improved efficiency. With her Higher Certificate in Insurance, Chantelle displays an excellent knowledge of insurance principles and practices, and is qualified and accredited in both short term and long term insurance. Chantelle also acts as the Group’s internal compliance and risk manager.
Carol Jones – Chief Marketing Officer
Carol began her career in Insurance in 1997. Coming from a medical background and being active in the motor industry provided the perfect platform for her later career in both long term and short term insurance. Using her remarkable people skills it was not long before she made her mark in the insurance broking world. Her business portfolio, based on the personal relationships developed and nurtured over the years, continues to prosper and grow as she directs her energies into looking after the insurance needs of Compendium’s ever-expanding client base. Carol is passionate about both Insurance and the Compendium Brand and is responsible for the Marketing and Brand Development of the group.
Jonathan Robertson – Director – Durban
After completing a BA Degree (Law) at the University of KZN, Durban, in 1996, Jono joined Price Forbes/Alexander Forbes as a Commercial Broker. After 12 productive years at Alexander Forbes he opened his own short term brokerage (Walsure) which he ran successfully for three years. In 2009 he sold his business to Compendium and since then has headed up the Marine Division as well as servicing an extensive commercial portfolio..
Bruce MacNair – Director – Gauteng
Bruce launched his insurance career in 1994 when he started out at Mutual and Federal Insurance Company as a Commercial Underwriter. In 1996 he changed course and joined the Corporate Team at Glenrand MIB as a broker. Thirteen years later Bruce moved to global brokerage Willis South Africa to handle a portfolio of major corporate clients. In 2012 he was appointed General Manager of the Broking and Servicing teams in the Corporate and Commercial Division at GIB Insurance Brokers. In 2017 Bruce joined Compendium to head up the Corporate Team, which includes the Bidvest portfolio.
Debbie Crofts – Director – Durban
Debbie began her insurance career in 1984 working for a small insurance broker, Louis Volks and Associates, and quickly developed a passion for settling insurance claims. To this day she gives her all to ensure that clients receive the best possible outcome from what is often a traumatic event. Later she joined Glenvaal Insurance Brokers as a Corporate Claims Consultant before transferring to their Durban office. In 1990 Debbie joined Compendium Insurance Brokers as a Claims Manager, developing close relationships with clients and thriving on the daily challenges of providing stand-out service. As a Group Claims Specialist she heads up the Bidvest Corporate Claims Team, as well as continuing to serve as Personal Assistant to CEO Rowan Jones.
Wayne Weiss – Director – Cape Town
Wayne started his insurance career with Protea Assurance Company in 1987. After six years of insurance company experience he joined the rapidly expanding Geoff Patterson Insurance Brokers as a part of their broking team. In 1996 he was asked to join the management team and subsequently became a shareholder. After the merger, Wayne became an integral part of the Compendium team and currently handles a large portfolio of business and has vast experience in short term insurance.
Dave O'Connor – Director – Durban
Dave started out at Protea Assurance Company in 1983 and can now claim over 30 years’ of experience in the insurance industry. In 1989 he joined Geoff Patterson Insurance Brokers where his talents as a marketer were soon noticed. In 1995 he was invited to become a shareholder and part of the management team at Geoff Patterson Insurance Brokers, which later merged to form the Compendium Insurance Group. Today, Dave is an integral part of the customer portfolio development and management team, and is qualified and accredited in all aspects of short term insurance.
Gareth Reeves – Director – Eastern Cape
From the age of twenty-one, Gareth was given the opportunity to work in the family business: Reeves Insurance Brokers, East London. He worked as a Claims Consultant and as a Domestic and Commercial underwriter. In 2005 he moved back to Port Elizabeth, joining Mutual & Federal as an underwriter dealing with brokers and direct clients. Despite working for a large corporate he continued to dream of running his own brokerage one day. In 2007 he met Rowan Jones while participating in a half Iron Man event and a few months later was approached to buy into a small brokerage with Compendium and Reeves Insurance Brokers.
David Brauteseth – Director – Durban
David’s area of specialisation is Business Insurance and he enjoys dealing with the complexity of covers available and providing clients with professional, tailor-made advice and services. He is passionate about the insurance industry and has served on the Drakensburg Insurance Institute (DII) committee over the past few years and as its President. He qualified as an Associate of the Insurance Institute of South Africa in 2014 and is looking to further his studies with the objective of specialising in Corporate Insurance.
